Three Dead After Light Plane Crashes Into Ocean Near Goolwa South, Second Crash Hits Queensland

Three people died when a light plane crashed into the ocean near Goolwa South, South Australia, on Friday at about 4:20 pm. Police said the aircraft was a single-engine Cessna. The victims were a 57-year-old pilot from Morphett Vale, an 18-year-old man from Freeling, and a 19-year-old man from Pasadena. Emergency services including the CFS, SES, Sea Rescue, and commercial operators responded quickly to the crash at Long Bay. Police thanked all who helped in the search and recovery. A video from Seven News Adelaide shows the plane spinning before it nose-dived into the water. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) will send investigators to examine the wreckage, talk to witnesses, and collect flight data. Authorities have asked anyone with footage of the incident to come forward. Meanwhile, a second small plane crashed near Normanton, Queensland, around 8 pm on Friday, about 800 meters west of the local airport. Police have not confirmed the condition of those on board, saying the crash site is difficult to reach. The ATSB is also gathering information on this crash. Goolwa South is located about 70 km south of Adelaide, while Normanton is a small town in northwest Queensland with around 1,400 residents. A report on the Goolwa South crash will be prepared for the coroner.
