China is developing mini hypersonic glide missiles that can be launched from 80mm naval guns. These missiles reach speeds close to Mach 6 right after leaving the barrel, much faster than normal anti-aircraft shells. They can strike fighter jets or drones more than 20km (12 miles) away at high altitudes of about 10,000 meters (32,800 feet). Even after flying this distance, the missile still travels at Mach 3.6. Computer simulations show the missile can adjust its path even if the target makes a near 90-degree turn. This increases its chances to a 99% kill probability. This new tech means enemy aircraft get only seconds to react, making it a fearsome weapon in air defense.
