US Influencer Fined for Reckless Ebike Ride on Sydney Harbour Bridge Amid Soaring Injuries
February 7, 2026
New South Wales police have fined American social media influencer Sur Ronster for reckless riding on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. On Tuesday, about 40 people on ebikes and motorcycles rode along the bridge’s main deck, where cycling is banned. The group then rode through Sydney’s city centre and Haymarket. Police called the ride "incredibly irresponsible, stupid and downright dangerous". Assistant Commissioner David Driver said, "This had potential for people to be injured and killed." Police did not chase the group for safety reasons but found them later near Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, where they dispersed. Sur Ronster, 26, received two traffic fines of $562 each for negligent driving, with three demerit points per notice. The rider has over 3.4 million followers on social media. Ronster told the Sydney Morning Herald he regretted the damage to "bike life" reputation and accepted responsibility, saying the ride was "one of the safest ride-outs I’ve ever seen." He said he was unfamiliar with Sydney and chose to turn around on the bridge to avoid a crime. Meanwhile, ebike-related injuries have surged in NSW. In 2024, there were 226 injuries recorded. In just the first seven months of 2025, injuries rose to 233, with four deaths. Federal Health Minister Mark Butler called illegal ebikes a "total menace on the road" and said police must have powers to seize and destroy them.
