PESHAWAR: A police officer was martyred and a constable injured during a raid in Hakeemabad, Nowshera district, officials said. The raid aimed at arresting suspects linked to the Islamabad imambargah suicide bombing. The deadly blast killed at least 36 people and injured many at a Friday congregation near Islamabad.
A Nowshera police official, speaking anonymously, confirmed the operation happened late at night following clues about facilitators of the Islamabad attack. An exchange of gunfire occurred between law enforcement and suspected militants. "Yes, a raid was conducted in the district and an exchange of fire took place. An assistant sub-inspector was martyred and a constable sustained injuries in the crossfire," the official said.
He added the raid was part of the ongoing probe into the Islamabad bombing and involved multiple security agencies, not just Nowshera police. No further details were given.
The bombing took place at Imambargah Qasr-i-Khadijatul Kubra on Islamabad's outskirts. This deadly attack took place less than three months after a suicide blast on November 11, 2025, near the district court in Islamabad’s G-11 area that killed 12 and injured over 30.
Friday’s attack was the capital’s deadliest since September 2008, when a suicide truck bomb killed 60 people and damaged the Marriott hotel.
