The UAE Embassy in Madrid has issued a critical safety advisory for all Emirati citizens in Spain. It warned about severe flooding caused by Storm Leonardo, which has battered Spain with heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms. The embassy urged Emiratis to stay away from flood-prone areas, especially in southern Spain, where rivers like the Guadalquivir have risen to dangerous levels. Authorities in Spain have ordered evacuations. In Andalusia alone, over 7,000 people had to leave their homes. The mountain village of Grazalema saw over 700mm of rain since Wednesday. This caused fears of landslides and flooded aquifers. Major roads, rail lines, and bridges have been damaged, and schools are closed in 33 provinces. A tragic death was reported near Malaga — a woman swept away while trying to save her dog. Search teams continue looking for others missing in the Turvilla river. The UAE Embassy advised Emirati citizens to follow Spanish civil protection instructions closely and monitor official weather updates. They also encouraged registration on the “Tawajudi” emergency service for quick help and communication. For urgent support, UAE nationals can contact embassy services in Spain. This advisory is part of the UAE’s wider effort to protect citizens abroad amid rising global weather risks. Other warnings have been issued recently for UAE nationals in Italy and Vietnam. The embassy stressed, "Early registration and communication are critical during rapidly evolving emergencies." UAE authorities call on all Emiratis in Spain to stay alert, connected, and follow official guidance until the storm passes.
