White House Plans First Board of Peace Meeting on Gaza for February 19
February 7, 2026
The White House is planning the first leaders meeting of President Donald Trump’s "Board of Peace" focused on Gaza on February 19, according to Axios. This meeting will also serve as a fundraiser for Gaza reconstruction efforts. The event is set to take place at the US Institute of Peace in Washington. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet Trump at the White House on February 18, the day before the meeting. The plans are still in early stages and may change, Axios reported, citing a US official and diplomats from four countries involved with the board.
In late January, Trump launched the Board of Peace, which he will chair. He says the board aims to resolve global conflicts. However, experts worry it might undermine the United Nations. Several traditional Western allies have not joined the initiative, though some Middle Eastern allies support it.
A UN Security Council resolution from November authorized the board and its partner countries to set up an international stabilization force in Gaza. This came after a fragile ceasefire started in October, part of Trump’s Gaza plan signed by Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas. The board is expected to supervise Gaza’s temporary governance. Trump later said the board will expand to help tackle other global conflicts.
Critics argue that having Trump lead a board controlling a foreign territory mirrors colonialism. They also point out that no Palestinian is included on the board. Since the ceasefire began in October, it has been violated often, resulting in over 550 Palestinian deaths. Israel’s assaults on Gaza since late 2023 have killed over 71,000 Palestinians and caused a hunger crisis and displacement. Many rights experts and a UN inquiry label these events as genocide.
