Kolkata: Hundreds of worried fans of Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan held a yagna on Maha Shivratri to pray for his speedy recovery. "We are using the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri to pray to Lord Shiva to help him recover painlessly from his health problems," said Sourav Banerjee of the Amitabh Bachchan Fans Association of Kolkata. Dressed in traditional clothes and carrying the actor's posters, fans gathered at Ekdaliya Evergreen Park for the hour-long ceremony. Since news of Big B's health issues emerged, his admirers, who have even built a temple for him in South Kolkata, have been deeply concerned. "We have been praying for his health and well-being ever since and are constantly monitoring media reports on his health," Banerjee added. Fan Goutam Basak pointed to the actor’s "workaholic nature" as a reason for his medical condition. "He has delivered hits after hits all his career and at this age of his life his body needs rest," said the 32-year-old, who also mentioned plans for a grand celebration when the superstar returns home. On February 11, 69-year-old Amitabh Bachchan underwent abdominal surgery. After he complained of acute pain, his hospital stay was extended. Currently recovering at Seven Hills hospital, his health is said to be improving.
