ICC Talks With PCB to End Pakistan’s T20 World Cup India Match Boycott
February 7, 2026
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is in talks with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to solve the boycott situation of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup match against India on February 15. The Pakistani government allowed the team to join the T20 World Cup 2026 but said Pakistan will not play India in Colombo. The battle between India and Pakistan is the richest in cricket, earning millions from broadcasting and sponsorship. The PCB started talks after ICC formally reached out, aiming to find a solution through dialogue, not fight. The 20-team tournament has heated up after Bangladesh refused to play in India due to security issues and was replaced by Scotland. Pakistan protested by refusing to face India in Group A. Pakistan won their opener against Netherlands but will lose two points if they skip the India game, also hurting their net run rate. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav said India will travel to Colombo for the match. Pakistan and India haven’t played bilateral cricket for more than ten years and only meet in big tournaments. Sri Lanka’s cricket board asked Pakistan to rethink the boycott because it would cause financial losses and damage tourism, still weak after Sri Lanka's 2022 economic crisis. Pakistan’s captain Salman Agha said if they face India in a semifinal or final, they will consult the government.
