Hong Kong Bus Driver Diverts Route to Rush Ill Child to Hospital
February 7, 2026
A Hong Kong bus driver got public praise for an urgent detour to help a sick child. Citybus said the route 79X bus was traveling on Tolo Highway around 10pm when a passenger saw a child was unwell and asked the driver for help. The driver quickly stopped the bus near Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in Tai Po. Passengers were allowed to leave the bus for medical care before the journey continued. A passenger posted about the event on social media, saying the bus suddenly changed direction toward Tai Po. "At first, I thought the bus had gone the wrong way, but then I found out that a baby on the bus had a sudden seizure," wrote user kaga_ss. Many online users praised the driver. Eric Leung said, "Worth praise, hope Citybus will not punish the driver. Hong Kong needs more such good deeds with humanity." Another user, 8385sleepwell, wrote, "Thank the driver for his timely response, and thank the passengers even more for their understanding. May the baby be safe." A third user added, "I really appreciate the people of Hong Kong. The driver was brave, clever and kind-hearted. Although Hong Kong values efficiency and cannot be half a second slower, I believe the passengers on the bus were willing to save the baby first and offer help together." Citybus said it is reviewing the incident and thanked passengers for their understanding.
