The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) carried out two major raids on February 6. In Mahabubabad district, officials raided Sri Laxmi Ganapathi Medical and General Stores in Maripeda village. The store proprietor, Upender Maloth, was caught selling habit-forming drugs such as Tramadol injections, Tramadol tablets, and Alprazolam tablets to drug addicts without proper prescriptions. DCA found multiple violations including missing sales bills, lack of prescription drug registers, and failure to keep Schedule H1 drug registers. Records related to the sale of these drugs were seized. On the same day, the DCA inspected Sri Laxmi Srinivasa Medical and General Stores in Palvancha, Bhadradri Kothagudem district. Officials discovered label tampering on Thyronorm 100 mcg tablets, produced by Abbott India Limited. Samples were sent to the manufacturer who confirmed the label “For Institutional Supply Only” had been altered. The DCA seized these stocks. Both selling habit-forming drugs without prescription and tampering with drug labels are offenses under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Those found guilty can face imprisonment up to two years.
