Two French friends, Loic Voisot and Benjamin Humblot, reached Shanghai on Saturday after walking nearly 12,850 km in 518 days. They started from Annecy, France, in September 2024. Their mission was to explore China without flying, to protect the environment. The two childhood friends crossed 16 countries on foot, except for a short bus ride in Russia for safety reasons. They walked about 45 km daily, resting every five to seven days. When they arrived, around 50 local fans and media greeted them near the Bund riverfront. Voisot said, "We’re having a hard time believing it’s real, that we’ve done all that on foot, that we’re finally here." Humblot added their journey was fueled by a love for adventure and climate care. They funded their trip with crowdfunding and sponsors. Along the way, they faced harsh winters and walked deserts but stayed strong. Both missed French cheese the most during their trip. Now, they consider continuing by boat to the US and possibly walking back to France. For now, Voisot plans to,"Sleep a lot!" after this incredible accomplishment.
