A tragic accident occurred at the Surajkund Crafts Mela in Faridabad on February 7, 2026. A 'top spin' swing carrying 26 people collapsed, causing the death of Haryana Police Inspector Jagdish Prasad and injuries to 13 others. The incident happened around 6 p.m. when one end of the swing suddenly came loose after rotating, and it hit the ground with a loud thud. People were excited moments before, but the fall caused chaos and panic among the large crowd. Inspector Jagdish was trying to rescue people when the other end collapsed on him, causing fatal head injuries. He was declared dead at the hospital. Nine injured were taken to a private hospital, and four were admitted to the Civil Hospital. An FIR has been registered against the vendor. The top spin ride is a high-thrill, pendulum-style attraction that swings back and forth while rotating. Deputy Commissioner Ayush Sinha said a daily inspection committee monitors these swings. Haryana Tourism Minister Arvind Sharma announced a thorough investigation and promised strict action. Chief Minister Nayab Saini assured full government support for the injured and their families. Surajkund Crafts Mela, inaugurated this year by Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, is one of India’s largest cultural festivals, featuring participants from over 50 countries.
