Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said the US wants to finish all talks to end Russia’s war by June. “The Americans are proposing that the parties end the war by the beginning of this summer,” Zelensky told reporters late Friday. He noted the US midterm elections in November will shift their focus later this year. Zelensky added that peace talks may happen in about a week and that Ukraine has accepted a US call to stop strikes on energy targets as a “de-escalation gesture.” However, hours after these statements, Russian forces launched a large missile and drone attack on Ukraine’s power grid, knocking out electricity, heating, and water for much of the west. The battle continues as diplomatic efforts move forward.
