AIMSA Appeals to PM Modi for Safety of Indian Medical Students After Knife Attack in Russia
February 8, 2026
The All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 8, 2026, asking for urgent action after four Indian medical students were hurt in a knife attack in Ufa, Russia. AIMSA called for immediate diplomatic steps to secure justice for the students and to improve safety measures for Indians studying abroad. The letter expressed deep concern about the attack at Bashkir State Medical University and said such incidents create fear among thousands of Indian students overseas. AIMSA said, “Indian students travel overseas with dreams of becoming healthcare professionals and serving humanity. Any act of violence, discrimination, or hostility against them is unacceptable and must be strongly condemned. The safety and well-being of our students must remain a top priority.” They urged the Indian government to set up emergency helplines, monitor foreign universities, and work with foreign authorities to prevent future attacks. The Indian Embassy in Moscow confirmed the incident, stating, “An unfortunate incident of attack has occurred in Ufa. Several persons, including four Indian students, have been injured.” The Embassy said it is coordinating with local authorities and has sent officials from the Consulate in Kazan to assist the injured students.
