Mumbai Drenched, Red Alerts Flash! Delhi Awaits Patchy Rain Amid Humid Heat

August 17, 2025

Hold onto your umbrellas, Mumbai! The city, along with several parts of Maharashtra, was hit hard by heavy rainfall on Saturday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) didn’t hold back — issuing a red alert for Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri. Residents are urged, "Avoid non-essential travel." The situation is serious and naughty waterlogging has taken over streets like Andheri and Milan Subways, Kurla, Chembur, and Gandhi Market where vehicles struggled to move through flooded lanes. Trouble struck worse at Jankalyan Society, Varsha Nagar, Vikhroli Park Site in West Mumbai, where a landslide claimed two lives and injured two more, BMC officials report. Between 1 AM and 4 AM on August 16, heavy rainfall battered both sides of the city. Marol Fire Station recorded a whopping 207 mm of rain while Vikhroli and Ghatkopar got drenched too. The IMD warns that very heavy to extremely heavy showers will continue, with temperatures dancing around 29°C during the day and dropping to a cozy 24°C at night. Early morning rains gave Colaba 45.2 mm and Santacruz 11.5 mm in the 24 hours before 8:30 AM Friday. And it’s not over yet! Rainfall is expected to turn even heavier from Sunday to August 19 in Palghar, caused by a low-pressure area brewing over the Bay of Bengal near north Andhra Pradesh. Most of Konkan-Goa faces moderate to heavy rains, while Marathwada could see thundershowers. The forecast promises light to moderate showers across South Madhya Maharashtra and isolated rains in North Madhya Maharashtra. What about Delhi? The capital city is bracing for patchy rains, with temperatures ranging from 28.5°C to 35.5°C on August 16, 2025. The air feels sticky with a 61% humidity level, and there’s a 79% chance you’ll see some rain. Clouds will build up during the day, possibly triggering afternoon and evening showers. Winds will offer a gentle relief up to 12.6 km/h, making the heat bearable. The average temperature will hover around 31.7°C. Early birds can enjoy the sunrise at 5:51 AM, perfect for outdoor activities before the day turns wet and humid. Weather experts advise, "Stay hydrated and try to avoid the harsh afternoon sun." Whether you're in Mumbai battling waterlogged roads or in Delhi watching the sky closely, the monsoon drama is unfolding with full spice.
