The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has decided to file first information reports (FIRs) against individuals caught removing advertisements from buses and bus shelters, especially after some damaged property during such acts. This step follows the government's order to remove advertisements promoting tobacco use within 15 days. Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy directed KSRTC to ensure no tobacco-related ads remain on public buses across Karnataka by February 15. The order came after public outrage, with many people trying to remove tobacco ads themselves. KSRTC officials say while the corporation is removing these ads in an organized way, some people have also taken down other ads, causing damage to buses and shelters. In response, KSRTC Managing Director Akram Pasha issued a circular on February 7, instructing divisions to take legal action against unauthorized removal and property damage. The circular directs lodging FIRs at local police stations for such incidents and preventing repeat occurrences. Officials will inspect and report back on the removal progress by February 18. KSRTC confirms that tobacco-related advertisements will be removed systematically within the set deadline.
