PESHAWAR: Police stopped an attack by unknown militants on a police checkpoint in Passani village outside Peshawar. Peshawar Capital City Police Officer Dr Mian Saeed Ahmed told Dawn, “the militants attacked a police post and an exchange of fire also took place, but the policemen, deployed at the facility, retaliated, forcing the militants to escape.” He added the situation was "under control." No casualties or injuries were reported. The exact damage is still being checked. Earlier, on November 26, unknown persons blew up a gas pipeline in the Hameed Khan Machine area, about five miles south of the Passani police post. Residents saw a fire after the explosion. A police official said this pipeline was bombed before, two years ago, by terrorists. Last year, on August 15, police and security forces stopped three militant attacks near Mattani police station. Militants attacked the Hameed Khan police checkpoint from a nearby forest but missed the post. Police fought back and stopped the attack without casualties. Similar attacks on Fort Mackson (Kishangar post) and the Azakhel Dam post were also repelled with no reported injuries.
