At least six people were hurt on Sunday afternoon when a luxury car lost control and hit pedestrians and two-wheelers in Kanpur’s upscale Gwaltoli area. The accident happened around 3:15 p.m. near Rev-3 Mall on VIP Road. Police said the car was driven by Shivam Mishra, son of tobacco trader K K Mishra. "The accident occurred around 3.15 p.m. near Rev-3 Mall when the luxury car, reportedly driven by Shivam Mishra, the son of businessman K K Mishra, went out of control and ploughed into people standing along the roadside and several vehicles, triggering panic in the area," said DCP (Central) Atul Kumar Srivastava. Eyewitnesses described how the car first hit an auto-rickshaw and then crashed into a parked Royal Enfield motorcycle, which flung the rider nearly 10 feet into the air. The car dragged the motorcycle before hitting an electric pole and stopping. One victim, Taufiq from Yamunaganj, suffered serious leg injuries after being thrown several meters. Others had fractures and bruises. Locals gathered angrily and trapped the driver inside the car. Witnesses accused private bouncers with the accused of acting aggressively, heightening tensions. Police arrived quickly, rescued the driver, and took him and the injured to a private hospital. The damaged Lamborghini was seized and taken to the police station. At the police station, a chaotic scene emerged as victims claimed the accused’s associates misbehaved. They also alleged police were soft on the driver due to his family's influence. Protesters said there was pressure for a compromise and delays in filing a case. One injured, Sonu Tripathi, said, "My cousin was thrown off the bike, and two others were flung onto the footpath. We have filed a complaint." DCP Srivastava confirmed the vehicle was seized and that an FIR will be registered. "The injured were provided primary treatment. An FIR will be registered, and further legal action will follow," he said. K K Mishra runs Banshidhar Exports Pvt Ltd, which supplies tobacco to gutkha makers in the region.
