A Hong Kong court has denied bail to Koki Hirose, a 57-year-old Japanese suspect accused of conspiring to steal 27.9 million yen. This charge relates to a January robbery outside a currency exchange in Sheung Wan where over 51 million yen was stolen. Hirose appeared in Eastern Court, Sai Wan Ho, on Monday. Authorities allege he acted with unknown accomplices between January 30 and 31. Earlier, three Japanese men—Keigo Shimomura, 23; Masato Yamaguchi, 28; and Yusuke Suzuki, 27—and a 52-year-old Chinese interpreter, Li Nan, were charged for their roles in the theft. Police linked Hirose to Suzuki but did not reveal his exact role. Principal Magistrate David Cheung Chi-wai rejected bail, citing the crime's seriousness and strong evidence. Hirose remains in custody and will appear in court again with other defendants on April 14. His lawyer may seek bail review after eight days. The robbery involved two men snatching a backpack with 51 million yen from a Japanese man near the currency exchange. Police arrested six people over the case.
