Mumbai is facing a serious wet and wild situation! On Sunday, IndiGo and Akasa Air came out with urgent alerts for their passengers traveling from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Why? Heavy rains are causing waterlogging and traffic jams on the roads leading to the airport. IndiGo's social media post warned, "If you have a flight, please leave earlier than usual and check your flight status on our app or website. Be careful on wet and slippery roads." The airline said, "Rainfall is affecting large parts of Mumbai, and some roads towards the airport have water buildup and traffic delays." Akasa Air gave a similar heads-up, saying, "Due to heavy rainfall in certain parts of Mumbai and Goa, we anticipate slow-moving traffic and congestion on roads leading to the airport." They urged passengers to "plan for additional travel time to reach the airport well in time for your flight," aiming to keep travel smooth despite the chaos. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has put Mumbai and nearby districts Thane, Raigad, and Palghar under an 'orange' alert for heavy to very heavy rains with gusty winds possibly reaching speeds of 40-60 kmph. Early Sunday, the rain slowed down after a heavy overnight downpour that flooded low-lying areas and messed with local train services. Officials said no major waterlogging was reported on Sunday morning, but some Central Railway local trains ran late without a stated reason. Thankfully, BEST bus routes remained unaffected. Sadly, the heavy rain also brought tragedy. A landslide in the Vikhroli Parksite area, an eastern suburb, killed two people and injured two others on Saturday night. Mumbai’s friends, if you’re flying out, listen closely: Leave early, expect slow roads, and keep an eye on your flight status! The monsoon may have Mumbai in its grip, but smart travel planning can keep your journey on track.
