A major fire broke out at scrapyards in Kesare, near Mysuru, on February 9. The blaze started around 4 a.m. and quickly spread, destroying several godowns. Three fire tenders from Bannimantap and Hebbal stations rushed to the site. Firefighters fought the fire for hours to control the flames. The fire spread fast due to large amounts of scrap material, including tyres, empty bottles, and boxes with perfumes and paints. Regional Fire Officer Chandan said the fire may have started because of an 'unscientific' method to extract copper by burning electric wires. This fire likely spread across scrapyard godowns covering about two acres near the Mysuru–Bengaluru highway. Police helped fire teams during the operation. Thankfully, no loss of life was reported.
