The Central Bank of the UAE has issued a limited set of commemorative gold and silver coins to celebrate five years of Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI). The release marks the university’s achievements since opening its doors in 2020. These special coins, delivered directly to MBZUAI, are not for sale to the public. Only 10 gold and 500 silver coins were made, each weighing 50 grams, emphasizing their ceremonial value. The gold coin shows the university’s Knowledge Centre on one side, with the years 2020 and 2025. Around it, the words "Power from Knowledge to Serve" appear, alongside the university’s name in Arabic and English and its official logo. The other side features the UAE national emblem and the Central Bank’s name in both languages. The silver coin also depicts the Knowledge Centre with the same years, detailed geometric designs, and the university’s name and logo. The reverse side shows the coin's value of AED 50, surrounded by the Central Bank’s inscription in Arabic and English. The Central Bank stated this initiative supports national education projects tied to the UAE’s long-term goals. It celebrates MBZUAI’s role in the country’s fast-growing artificial intelligence sector. Saif Humaid Al Dhaheri, Assistant Governor for Banking Operations and Support Services at the Central Bank, said the coins "recognise MBZUAI as a specialised academic model that supports the UAE’s vision of a knowledge- and innovation-driven economy." Eric Xing, President and University Professor at MBZUAI, called the coins "a meaningful acknowledgement of the university’s role in the nation’s strategic evolution." He added the recognition shows "the UAE’s decision to place artificial intelligence at the core of its national agenda, linking the country’s heritage with the future of advanced technology."
