Mandya Plans Kannada Bhavan to Celebrate Kannada Culture, ₹5.5 Crore Funded
February 9, 2026
Mandya district is preparing the blueprint for the proposed Kannada Bhavan, said Deputy Commissioner Kumar. The building will highlight the richness of Kannada language, literature, culture, and heritage. This project commemorates the grand 87th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana held in Mandya in December two years ago.
The Sammelana was a big success, earning appreciation from across Karnataka. Local people, literary enthusiasts, and elected representatives requested a permanent place to honor this achievement. Thus, the Kannada Bhavan project took shape.
The total cost of the building is ₹5.50 crore. This includes ₹2.50 crore from surplus funds collected during the Sammelana and ₹3 crore from the Chief Minister’s Infrastructure Development Programme. The foundation stone was laid on January 30.
On February 7, officials met to discuss the design and blueprint of the Bhavan. Deputy Commissioner Kumar directed that the building’s design should capture the glory of the Kannada language and cultural heritage. The Kannada Bhavan aims to be a proud symbol for all Kannadigas.
