The fight against avian influenza has stepped up in Annamayya district's Sodum mandal. Officials confirmed bird flu presence and started culling birds in infected zones on Monday, extending containment measures for the second day in a row. Task forces of animal husbandry and veterinary teams lead the culling with strong support from district authorities. District Collector Nishant Kumar held meetings to oversee disinfection, safe disposal of dead birds, and movement restrictions. Medical and health staff are on alert while revenue and police teams enforce rules strictly. At the Government District Headquarters Hospital in Madanapalle, a senior medical officer said, "There has been no evidence of human infection so far," urging the public to support containment efforts. In nearby Chittoor district's Karvetinagaram mandal, poultry deaths raised alarms. Collector Sumit Kumar sent extra animal husbandry staff to investigate. Joint Director Dr. D. Uma Maheswari stated, "We have collected the samples from the poultry farms. We are awaiting the test results," and reassured, "There is no cause for public to panic." Officials demand stricter surveillance and inspections in RKVB Peta and surrounding areas. Samples are being sent for advanced testing to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal. Farmers are warned to follow biosecurity rules closely: restrict outsiders, monitor bird health, and report any unusual deaths or breathing problems immediately. Authorities stress that chicken and eggs are safe if cooked above 70°C. The field teams ask villagers to stay alert but avoid spreading or relying on rumors during this crisis.
