A Hong Kong Airlines flight declared a mayday call due to fuel emergency after a runway closure at Taiwan’s Taoyuan International Airport. The closure was caused by debris from an earlier incident. Three aircraft, including Hong Kong Airlines flight HX260, had to circle above the airport, raising fuel concerns. The crew of HX260, flying from Hong Kong to Taipei, requested priority landing on safety grounds. According to audio clips, the plane made three mayday calls around 7 pm on Sunday. A pilot told air traffic control the aircraft had a fuel emergency. The plane landed at 7:15 pm, nearly an hour late from its scheduled arrival at 6:20 pm. Two other flights, EVA Air flight BR392 and BR007, also issued mayday calls for fuel concerns while circling before the Hong Kong Airlines flight. Flight BR392 made the call at 6:52 pm, and BR007 at 6:57 pm. Hong Kong Airlines confirmed the fuel emergency and the priority landing request in a statement to the South China Morning Post. The runway closure caused a disruption in flight arrivals and forced the planes to wait in the air for clearance.
