RAWALPINDI: A large fire engulfed a factory in Rawat Industrial Estate on Monday. Rescue 1122 said firefighting efforts have been ongoing for over three hours. The factory building covers more than two kanals. Earlier, Rescue 1122 stated that 13 fire tenders and over 45 rescue staff were involved in the operation. The cause of the fire remains unknown. Meanwhile, authorities have issued notices to all high-rise buildings in Rawalpindi to follow fire safety rules within 30 days. A recent meeting chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner General Dr Hasaan Tarriq revealed there are 163 high-rise buildings in the district, including those under cantonment boards. These are categorized into 2 Grade A, 3 Grade B, 6 Grade C, and 152 Grade D buildings. On January 31, two people were safely evacuated from a fire at a residential building in Phase-7, Bahria Town, Rawalpindi. More details to follow.
