Guangzhou-based Pony AI and Toyota announced the mass production of 1,000 autonomous robotaxis set to operate in major Chinese cities this year. The companies plan to expand the robotaxi fleet to over 3,000 units across China and international markets by the end of 2026. Pony AI said, "This milestone marks a new phase of scaled production and commercial deployment for the Pony-Toyota collaboration in robotaxi development and operations." Toyota is a shareholder in Pony AI and works closely on manufacturing these driverless cars. Shanghai-based consultant Ding Haifeng stated, "Pony and Toyota are showing that a marriage between a provider of advanced self-driving technology and a powerful car assembler could fuel the growth of robotaxis in populated cities." He added, "More Chinese people will see robotaxis or experience them on certain streets this year." This move highlights strong cooperation in autonomous technology, vehicle building, and supply chain integration between the two companies.
