MOSCOW: Russian military intelligence official Vladimir Alekseyev was shot several times in his apartment building in Moscow last week and hospitalized. According to Russia's FSB security service, the gunman, Lyubomir Korba, acted on orders from Ukraine's SBU. Korba, a Russian citizen born in 1960, was recruited and trained in Ukraine's Ternopil region last year. FSB said he was promised $30,000 to kill Alekseyev. Korba entered Russia through Moldova and Georgia and shot Alekseyev four times in the lift lobby. Two accomplices, Viktor Vasin and Zinaida Serebritskaya, were named by FSB. Vasin is accused of supporting the late opposition leader Alexei Navalny. Korba’s son, who lives in Poland, helped with recruitment. A Russian man in his 60s was arrested in Dubai over the incident and handed to Russian authorities. Ukraine has denied involvement in Alekseyev’s shooting but has claimed responsibility for other attacks in Russia. The Kremlin acknowledged last week that Russian army officials face threats during the ongoing Ukraine war.
