ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's Senate unanimously condemned the recent suicide attack in Tarlai on Monday. The house demanded a thorough and transparent investigation to catch the attackers and their backers. A resolution moved by PPP Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi urged stronger intelligence coordination and security in Islamabad and sensitive areas. The attack on civilians was condemned as against Islamic values and the Constitution. Condolences were offered to victims' families, and prayers were made for the injured. The Senate praised police, emergency, and medical teams for quick action. During the session, opposition leaders slammed Lahore's Basant festival celebrations amid nationwide mourning for terror attack victims in Balochistan and Islamabad. Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas called for a joint parliamentary session. He demanded the summoning of former military and spy chiefs to explain the Taliban’s return to Pakistan. "This cold-heartedness would only benefit the terrorists," said Abbas, criticizing celebrations during grief. He said timely hospital care could have saved lives and wished for a prime minister’s attendance at a joint funeral to show unity. PTI’s parliamentary leader Barrister Syed Ali Zafar said, "This is the time for decisive action," urging unity beyond politics. He called for wiping out terrorist networks fully, and dealing firmly with groups like Daesh. Senator Sherry Rehman praised the armed forces' efforts and criticized absent federal ministers and opposition conditions. She accused Imran Khan of Taliban sympathies and noted he is known as "Taliban Khan." Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar defended the armed forces, saying, "We have to stand firmly with our institutions." JUI-F Senator Maulana Attaur Rehman said blaming a neighboring country was not enough. He pointed to a divide between "good Taliban" and "bad Taliban" based on orders from institutions. PML-N Senator Pervaiz Rashid called Basant celebrations an act of defiance. "The terrorists want to make us mourn all the time but we will celebrate and destroy you," he said. The session ended in chaos when PML-N’s Abid Sher Ali accused PTI of May 9 incidents. Lawmakers blamed each other for ongoing terrorism threats. The Senate paused normal business to discuss the tragedy, showing national unity with a media blackout on TV and YouTube.
