China's first large domestically built cruise ship, the Adora Magic City, has carried 1 million passengers since it started operating two years ago. The operator announced this milestone on Sunday and said it aims to boost China's cruise market with the ship as a "Chinese benchmark" in the industry. Meanwhile, the second Chinese-built cruise ship, Adora Flora City, is over 90% complete. Built by a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, it will launch this year and run international routes from Guangzhou in southern China. On Friday, Chinese officials revealed a plan to make transport, including cruise ships and yachts, a key part of domestic growth. Liu Dong, a top official from the Ministry of Transport’s planning department, said, "Support will be extended to eligible regions to develop cruise services and broaden the network of cruise home port routes." This marks strong government support for expanding tourism and boosting household spending through new travel options.
