Netanyahu to Prioritize Iran Talks with Trump; Trump Threatens to Block Canada-US Bridge
February 10, 2026
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared he will focus on Iran negotiations during his Washington meeting with US President Donald Trump this Wednesday. "On this trip we will discuss a range of issues: Gaza, the region, but of course first and foremost the negotiations with Iran. I will present to the president our views regarding the principles for the negotiations," Netanyahu said before leaving for the US. This meeting follows recent Iran-US talks in Oman, with Trump indicating more negotiation rounds ahead. In another development, President Trump threatened to block the $4.6 billion Gordie Howe International Bridge connecting Windsor, Canada, and Detroit, US. Trump wrote, "I will not allow this bridge to open until the United States is fully compensated for everything we have given them, and also, importantly, Canada treats the United States with the Fairness and Respect that we deserve." Notably, Trump had endorsed this bridge project in 2017 alongside Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, calling it "a vital economic link." On the domestic front, Democratic leaders criticized the White House's immigration proposal as "incomplete and insufficient," demanding tougher limits on ICE enforcement to avoid a looming government shutdown. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries want judicial warrants, better identification of Homeland Security officers, new use-of-force norms, and an end to racial profiling, citing recent deadly shootings by federal agents. Meanwhile, optimism remains with Senate Majority Leader John Thune about possible progress in negotiations. Other news includes an immigration judge rejecting efforts to deport a Tufts University student linked to pro-Palestinian activism and a US military strike killing two suspected drug smugglers in the eastern Pacific. A California judge blocked parts of a new state law banning federal law enforcement officers from covering their faces.
