After Telangana's Urban Local Bodies elections, the spotlight moves to the 2026-27 budget. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka will lead department-wise meetings from February 16 for about a week. These will help finalize allocations for ongoing schemes. Following this, CM A. Revanth Reddy will decide the budget session start date, expected in the first week of March. The State plans cautious allocations as the recent Union budget offered no major gains. So far, Telangana has realized 67% of its ₹2.84 lakh crore 2025-26 budget projection, with ₹1.9 lakh crore revenue collected till December. Tax revenues stand at ₹1.13 lakh crore against the ₹1.75 lakh crore estimate. Officials expect tax receipts to improve in the last quarter. Borrowings have contributed around ₹65,930 crore. For 2026-27, the outlay may be ₹3.15 to ₹3.22 lakh crore, higher than the current ₹3.04 lakh crore. Priority areas include funding for Indiramma houses, bonuses for fine rice farmers, and free bus travel for women. Officials are urged to maximize central funds through schemes to reduce borrowing and interest burdens. Telangana received ₹14,982 crore as its share of central taxes, making up 70.9% of the ₹21,195 crore estimated. This amount is expected to increase in the fourth quarter.
