Al Jazeera Exposes Israel’s Use of Thermobaric Bombs in Gaza Killing Thousands without a Trace
February 10, 2026
On August 10, 2024, Yasmin Mahani searched for her son amid ruins in Gaza City but found no trace of him. Thousands of Palestinians like Saad have vanished without a body during Israel’s war on Gaza. Al Jazeera's investigation reports 2,842 Palestinians have "evaporated" since October 2023, with only blood or tiny body fragments found. Experts link this to Israel using US-supplied thermal and thermobaric weapons that burn at over 3,500°C. These bombs, such as the MK-84 and GBU-39, generate extreme heat and pressure that vaporize bodies instantly. Mahmoud Basal from Gaza’s Civil Defence said, "We find three bodies but the others have simply disappeared." Lawyer Diana Buttu called it "a global genocide," blaming not just Israel but also Western weapon suppliers. Despite international court orders against Israel, killings continue. Tariq Shandab highlighted "impunity" due to US veto power at the UN. For grieving families, like Rafiq Badran who lost four children, the horror of vanished loved ones is unbearable. "Four of my children just evaporated," he said. Al Jazeera’s report shines a harsh light on the deadly power of these weapons and the urgent call for justice amid war's darkest shadows.
