PTI Lawyer Meets Imran Khan in Jail as Supreme Court Orders Condition Report
February 10, 2026
ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, PTI lawyer Salman Safdar met ex-premier Imran Khan inside Adiala jail. The meeting lasted almost three hours. Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court allowed Safdar to meet Imran, appointing him as amicus curiae or friend of the court.
Safdar told reporters outside the jail, "Imran was fine and appeared healthy." He did not share further details, saying he must submit a report to the court first. Once done, he will share more.
The Supreme Court's two-member bench had earlier issued a notice to the government on Monday after rejecting an urgent meeting request by senior PTI leader Latif Khosa. The bench, with Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, said such an order needs hearing from both sides.
During Tuesday's hearing, CJP Afridi barred Khosa from speaking. Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan said a written response was submitted based on an August 24 order. This report covered Imran’s time in Attock jail in 2023, including a medical report from August 5 to 18.
CJP Afridi said no satisfactory report was on record since August 24, 2023. The court ordered a new report on Imran’s current living conditions at Central Prison, Rawalpindi. Safdar was appointed to visit Adiala jail and submit this report by Wednesday.
The CJP instructed that Safdar should not be delayed at the jail and promised personal staff support if needed.
Safdar asked if the report should cover only living conditions, noting Imran’s recent medical procedure. CJP Afridi confirmed to limit the report to living conditions only.
AGP Awan reminded the court that a previous report was already submitted.
Later, Khosa again sought permission to meet Imran but was denied. The court adjourned the hearing until February 12.
After the hearing, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja called his recent talk with the Chief Justice "beneficial". He said progress was made but stressed, "We are not declaring anything as final. We are not saying everything is good [and] we have gotten everything. This is not the case."
Raja urged the system to "return to humanity" and called for "humanity and piousness" in Imran’s treatment.
Imran Khan has been in jail since August 5, 2023, currently held at Rawalpindi's Central Jail. Last week, PTI filed a memorandum accusing authorities of violating Imran’s rights and hiding details of a secret medical procedure at an Islamabad hospital, excluding his family and lawyers against jail rules.
