Lahore Police Head Suspended Over Illegal Detention of Suspect in Chains
February 10, 2026
LAHORE: A police checkpost head was suspended for illegally detaining a suspect named Mukhtar in chains for four days. A viral video showing Mukhtar in shackles at the Kahna area checkpost led to action by Lahore’s Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran. Lahore Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohammad Tauqir confirmed that Mukhtar was kept in illegal custody by subinspector Adnan Virk, the in-charge of the Lakhoki checkpost. Official police records showed no first information report (FIR) had been filed against Mukhtar. However, local residents said Mukhtar was involved in crimes and they had asked police to arrest and investigate him. DIG Kamran stated, "The official was not authorised to detain the suspect at the checkpost even after the registration of a case. The suspect can only be sent to the lock-up of the police station concerned." Kamran appointed the Kahna Circle assistant subinspector to conduct a further inquiry into the matter.
