Single-Engine Plane Makes Emergency Landing on Busy Georgia Road, Hits Three Cars
February 10, 2026
A single-engine Hawker Beechcraft BE-36 had to land on Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville, Georgia, on Monday. The pilot, Thomas Rogers, reported engine failure shortly after takeoff. "We lost our engine taking off out of Gainesville," Rogers said. He tried to glide back but realized it was impossible, so he landed on the road. The plane hit three cars and dislodged a fuel tank into one vehicle, said Gainesville police captain Kevin Holbrook. Two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Holbrook said, "The fact that they were able to land in the middle of hundreds of vehicles and only hit three of them, no power lines is very remarkable." He added, "The fact that no one was seriously injured or killed is just astonishing." Browns Bridge Road is a major route in northeast Georgia. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the incident.
