India Ready for Tough T20 World Cup Clash Against Pakistan in Colombo
February 10, 2026
India has accepted the challenge of playing against a "quality" Pakistan team in Colombo for the T20 World Cup. Pakistan decided to play the big match, which India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate welcomed, saying, "It’s great that the game is back on, we kind of never changed the preparation." India will face Namibia in New Delhi on Thursday before flying to Colombo for the Sunday match, the tournament’s biggest fixture. Ten Doeschate added, "It’s going to be a challenge going to Colombo where Pakistan have been for the last two weeks. We are delighted to have another chance to play against a quality side in the first phase of the tournament. We are fully focused on just bringing our best game to that fixture." Sri Lanka, the host, praised Pakistan’s choice. Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake thanked Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on social media for "ensuring the game we all love goes on." Pakistan, who beat the Netherlands in the opener, would have lost points if they had forfeited. Due to an ICC deal, Pakistan plays all T20 World Cup matches in Sri Lanka so India and Pakistan meet only on neutral ground. India captain Suryakumar Yadav said before India's first win, "We haven’t said no to playing them. Our flights are booked and we are going to Colombo."
