Tiger Kills 3 Calves in One Day Near Arepally, Sparks Fear in Telangana
February 10, 2026
A tiger, aged 4-5 years, has killed three calves in one day near Arepally village in Koheda mandal, Siddipet district, Telangana. Locals are alarmed as the tiger has killed about 10 calves over two to three days. Rescue teams found six carcasses on Monday and three on Tuesday. The tiger has eaten only one carcass completely and returns to its kills after two days. Usually, adult tigers kill once a week or every 10 days, but this tiger's frequent kills are unusual. Wildlife experts say this might be 'surplus killing' caused by stress or human disturbance. "It is not unusual for a tiger to go on a killing spree when it is under stress. It is called surplus killing, and resorted to by the animals in specific conditions, for instance, when it rains copiously," said an expert anonymously. The tiger came from Kawal Tiger Reserve and is now in non-forest areas, killing dozens of cattle. Each kill costs the Forest department ₹20,000-25,000 in compensation. Authorities hope the tiger will return to wildlife areas in Maharashtra. Rescue teams are tracking it using thermal drones and monitoring its pug marks and signs.
