Jasveer Singh, the Indian CEO of AI matchmaking app Knot Dating, was recently denied a US visa. Officials said the denial was due to his weak ties to India. Singh found this reason illogical. He said he runs a company with Indian employees and has no reason to stay away from India. However, a 2016 social media post by Singh is now under scrutiny. In that post, Singh wrote, "Congratulations USA! You managed to show that Indians are not only dumbest people in the world," mocking Donald Trump’s election win. US political commentator Ryan James Girdusky questioned Singh’s intent, asking, "You called Americans the dumbest people in the world… why do you want to come here at all and why should we take someone who has that opinion of us?" Singh did not deny that his old tweets might have played a role. He joked about deleting tweets on US and NRIs before visa interviews to get approval. Since December 15, social media screening has extended to H-1B and H-4 visa holders, with applicants required to submit their social media handles. Singh’s visa type was B1/B2, and officials officially said the reason was his failure to prove strong ties to India. It remains unclear if his social media history influenced the decision.
