University employees under the Confederation of University Employees Organisations, Kerala, will join a nationwide general strike on Thursday. The strike is called by fourteen national trade unions along with employees and teachers of Central and State Civil Services and workers from Public Sector Undertakings. Their demands include the withdrawal of the Labour Codes, restoration of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), a rollback of policies weakening Civil Services, restoration of the old pension scheme, and withdrawal of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The strike aims to pressure the government into addressing these demands. The protest highlights widespread concerns about recent policy changes across employment and education sectors.
