A Somali pilot safely crash-landed a passenger plane with a technical fault on the seashore next to Mogadishu airport. The plane, a Fokker 50 operated by Starsky Aviation, took off on Tuesday morning but faced a problem soon after. The crew requested to return to the airport. The plane landed but did not stop on the runway and slid into shallow water. Starsky Aviation praised the pilot’s quick thinking which saved the lives of all 50 passengers and 5 crew members. No serious injuries have been reported. Somalia’s Civil Aviation Authority, led by Ahmed Macalin Hassan, confirmed the incident but said the exact technical issue is not yet known. The African Union mission in Somalia said UN and AU troops were quickly deployed to help in rescue efforts. Somalia’s transport minister also visited the site. Starsky’s spokesman, Hassan Mohamed Aden, said, "We are relieved to confirm that all passengers and crew are safe. Investigations are under way to establish what caused the technical issue that led to the emergency landing." He added, "The pilot's swift and calm decision-making played a decisive role in ensuring the safety of everyone on board, and we commend him for how he handled the situation." Passengers were seen safely walking away from the wreckage on the shore of the Indian Ocean. The incident highlights the pilot’s skill and quick response under pressure.
