An elderly woman died and seven others, including a child, were injured in a stampede during a religious procession in Dabra town, Madhya Pradesh, on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. The incident happened around 10:45 a.m. at Dabra stadium. About 7,000 women gathered for the first day of the 10-day Navgrah Temple procession. The temple is set to be inaugurated at the end of the event. The deceased has been identified as 70-year-old Rati Sahu. Deputy Inspector General of Police Amit Sanghi said six of the injured are stable, while one woman is under observation in Gwalior. The minor girl suffered a broken rib but is improving. Mr. Sanghi explained, "Many women stood near a gate not meant for entry. When the gate opened suddenly, some women fell due to pushing. One elderly woman at the front was seriously hurt." Ms. Sahu later died at the hospital. The large temple is built by a trust led by former Madhya Pradesh Home Minister and BJP leader Narottam Mishra. The procession will continue until February 20, expecting over 100,000 devotees and leaders like Pradeep Mishra, Kumar Vishwas, and Dhirendra Shastri. More than 1,500 security personnel will be deployed daily. "Senior officials and I visited the site today and issued instructions to improve safety to prevent such incidents," said Mr. Sanghi. The police confirmed that the situation is now under control.
