Kerala Police Chief Urges New Sub-inspectors to Embrace People-Friendly Policing and Tech Skills
February 11, 2026
State Police Chief Ravada A. Chandrasekhar urged 73 newly trained Sub-inspectors to adopt people-friendly policing and keep up with changing law enforcement challenges. At the Kerala Police Academy’s passing-out parade, he said traditional policing is evolving fast. "These threats cannot be tackled through physical strength or force alone. Intelligence-led policing and a deep understanding of technology are essential to counter new-generation crimes," he said.
He highlighted complex threats like cybercrimes, virtual arrests, cryptocurrency frauds, and organised drug networks. The parade was led by R. Ananthu Shekhar, with K.S. Nizamuddin as second-in-command. Awards were handed out: R. Ananthu Shekhar was named Best All-Rounder (Indoor), K.S. Nizamuddin Best Outdoor Cadet, and K. Sanjay Best Shooter.
The year-long training, starting January 8, 2025, included practical lessons from National Disaster Response Force experts on disaster management, reflecting on recent floods in Kerala. Coastal security training took place at Kochi Naval Base and Fort Kochi Coastal Police Station. Forensic medicine was taught at Thrissur Medical College Hospital. Trainees also received counter-terrorism training at the SOG camp in Areekode and high-altitude training in Kuttikkanam, Idukki.
This 31-D batch features several highly educated recruits, including 22 postgraduates and 51 graduates. The ceremony was attended by senior police officials, IG and Kerala Police Academy Director K. Sethuraman, public representatives, and families.
