10 Dead in Canada School Shooting; PM Carney Suspends Europe Visit
February 11, 2026
A tragic shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia, Canada, has claimed 10 lives and injured at least 27 people. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported that six victims were found dead inside the school. One person died en route to hospital, and two others were found dead at a nearby home linked to the incident.
The suspected shooter was also found dead with what police believe was a self-inflicted injury. Two individuals remain in serious or life-threatening condition in hospital, while about 25 others have non-life-threatening injuries and are being treated locally.
The community of Tumbler Ridge, a remote town of roughly 2,400 people in northeastern British Columbia, is described as tight-knit. Officials say multiple layers of support are being sent to help the grieving town.
Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed devastation over the "horrific shootings" and offered "prayers and deepest condolences" on social media. His office announced that he has suspended his planned trip to the Munich Security Conference in Germany to remain with Canadians during this time.
Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre condemned the "senseless act of violence," saying he was "devastated to hear of the many innocent people murdered and injured." He extended prayers to families, students, teachers, first responders, and the community.
Nearby elementary school children were safely released to their families as authorities continue their response. British Columbia’s Premier, David Eby, called the event an "unimaginable tragedy" and promised full support for community members affected by this loss.
This is one of Canada's deadliest school shootings. Canada has stricter gun laws than the US, but recent violent incidents have revived calls for tougher controls. The last major shooting was in 1989 in Montreal.
The RCMP continues to work on reuniting families with survivors. The community mourns as it deals with the aftermath of this sudden and tragic attack.
