Bengaluru Police Launch Operation Suraksha to Tackle Nighttime Crime and Anti-social Activities
February 11, 2026
The Bengaluru City Police launched a special drive called 'Operation Suraksha' to stop illegal acts and anti-social behavior at night. Police say that troublemakers gather in public at night to break laws, including using and selling narcotics. The operation is a joint effort by local police and the Central Crime Branch (CCB).
Officers patrol sensitive city areas in shifts. They look for people causing trouble, carrying weapons, or known rowdies involved in illegal activities. Each day, cases are filed under the Karnataka Police Act, 1972, and other laws.
Since December 2025, police have registered 151 cases for narcotics sale and use during nighttime across different stations. They also recorded 1,280 cases against people disturbing public peace. Those caught were warned or counseled to stop repeating offenses.
During this operation, 39 court-issued warrants against absconding accused were executed. One person was charged under the Arms Act, and eight rowdy people were booked. Police say crimes like chain and phone snatching have reduced since the operation began.
Police searched 215 houses of known rowdy elements as part of their drive. The operation has received praise from the public, especially women, senior citizens, and families for making the city safer at night.
