The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued summons to former Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) secretary S. Jayasree and an alleged intermediary, Kalpesh. Both must appear for questioning at the ED's Kochi office next week in the Sabarimala gold theft case. The ED has also summoned actor Jayaram. He is suspected of financial links with Unnikrishnan Potti, the prime accused. Videos show Jayaram joining a puja in Chennai in 2019 organized by Potti. The event involved temple artefacts that were taken for gold plating. Ms. Jayasree allegedly altered minutes in board documents. Kalpesh reportedly handed gold from Smart Creations, the Chennai firm handling gold plating, to a Bellary gold merchant named Govardhan. Meanwhile, the Kerala High Court-appointed special investigation team (SIT) has moved the Supreme Court opposing anticipatory bail for Ms. Jayasree. The High Court had earlier said her role is "well-made-out" at first glance. The ED registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) last month under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The agency began inquiries in October after money laundering concerns surfaced. The ED also petitioned the Kollam Vigilance Court for custody of case documents. It cited allegations of forgery, misappropriation of temple gold, and suspected laundering linked to Sabarimala under Section 467 of the Indian Penal Code, a scheduled offence under PMLA.
