Ten Dead in Tumbler Ridge School Shooting; Female Suspect Among Victims
February 11, 2026
Ten people, including the shooter, died after a mass shooting at a high school in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, Canada, on Tuesday. Police said the suspect was female, a rare fact for North American mass shootings. Six victims were found dead inside the school, two more at a related residence, and one died en route to the hospital, said the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Two others are seriously injured. Up to 25 people got minor injuries. Police confirmed no further threats or suspects remain. British Columbia Premier David Eby said, “It’s hard to know what to say on a night like tonight. It’s the kind of thing that feels like it happens in other places and not close to home.” The shooter was described as wearing a dress with brown hair. Student Darian Quist said he was in a mechanics class when the school went into lockdown. He said, “Then it set in what was happening.” Police arrived within two minutes, saving lives in the small town of about 2,400 people. Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, with about 160 students, will remain closed this week and counseling is available. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney postponed trips out of respect and said, “I am devastated by todays horrific shootings in Tumbler Ridge, B.C. My prayers and deepest condolences are with the families and friends.” This shooting is one of Canada’s deadliest, following past tragic events in Nova Scotia in 2020 and Montreal in 1989.
