On February 11, 2026, the Kozhikode sessions court in Kerala granted bail to Shimjitha Musthafa. She is accused of abetment in the death of U. Deepak, a native of Govindapuram. Shimjitha was granted bail after spending 19 days in judicial custody. She was arrested on January 22. The prosecution had opposed bail saying that forensic reports from her seized mobile phone were not yet available and that granting bail might affect the ongoing investigation. Earlier, her first bail application was denied by the Kunnamangalam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court. U. Deepak was found dead at his home near Govindapuram in Kozhikode city on January 18. Police sources said a video involving an allegation of sexual harassment was recorded by Shimjitha on a bus journey in Kannur district on January 16.
