Andhra Pradesh Trade Unions Rally Against Centre’s Anti-Labour Policies and Demand ₹30,000 Minimum Wage
February 13, 2026
In Andhra Pradesh, Left party leaders and trade unions rallied on Thursday against the Centre’s alleged anti-worker policies. The protest began at Ratham Centre, One Town, and ended with a public meeting at Lenin Centre. Protesters held placards and shouted slogans against ruling parties. They accused the Centre and the TDP-led State government of harming workers’ interests.
CPI(M) State secretary V. Srinivasa Rao and CITU State president A.V. Nageswara Rao demanded that the Central Government stop privatising Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and withdraw anti-labour policies. They said public sector units were closing down to make way for private companies. The protesters called for repealing the four Labour Codes introduced by the Narendra Modi Government.
They also demanded a fixed minimum wage of ₹30,000 and regularisation of services for three lakh contract workers in the State. The protesters wanted equal pay for equal work and strict enforcement of labour laws.
The leaders criticised amendments to the Seed Act, Employment Guarantee laws, and Electricity laws. They called for scrapping the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and restoring the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). They also opposed plans to privatise banks.
The protesters warned that if the Labour Codes were not repealed quickly, worker protests would escalate. They urged a united and sustained fight against government policies at both Central and State levels.
Despite the rally's size and energy, shops, schools, banks, and businesses remained open and operated normally during the Bharat Bandh.
