A 37-year-old man named S. Suraj died on February 13, 2026, after fainting at a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) meeting in Salem district. Suraj, originally from Maharashtra, had lived in Salem for 20 years and worked in a silver anklet unit. He attended the TVK meeting held at Seelanaickenpatti, waiting more than two hours in the hot sun. Suddenly, he fainted. TVK members rushed him to a nearby private hospital in an ambulance. Sadly, Suraj died on the way. The police are investigating the case. Sources said Suraj had heart surgery one-and-a-half years ago. His body will be sent for post-mortem after the family files a formal complaint. Suraj is survived by his wife Priya and two children aged 11 and 7.
